About Me

Canadian Artist Viet Tran celebrates both chaos and orders through his painterly paper collages. Tran used collage as an art therapy during his two years in Galang Refugee Camp in Indonesia. Tran has resettled in Victoria BC Canada since June 1, 1987. As a pure paper collage artist, Tran does not apply type of paint on his collage.

UNIQUE PAPER COLLAGE

Tran has a very unique technique which he calls "paint with paper". He patiently glues many layers of thousands of tiny coloured pieces directly ripped from magazines for each collage.

ART THERAPY

An art viewer may take a close look at Tran’s collages to detect movements, a chaotic world of colors, and shapes from messy layers of pieces of ripped magazines rebelliously fighting against each other. However, as the art viewer slowly steps backward about 10 feet away to have a “macro-look”, the collages gradually reveal its order, light, depth, energy, uniqueness, and beauty. The art viewer can change perspective and feeling through the artistic transformation of these collages by repeating the “zoom-in-and-out” process for a couple of times. Art viewers can find stillness and calmness within themselves through this process.

1/1/10 believe it
10/10/10 will be
1/1/11 is coming

how can we ...
what will we do ...
is this just a dream ...

no, reality is real
what our mind tells us
we can't tell

11/11/11 what will be
12/21/12
i'll be 55 years old

i made a phone call from the moon;
back to mother Earth
tera firma

and she heard
my calling
understandi ng
let the phone ring
without reply
oh' why
don't you answer
she replied
your not listening
i am with you
always
call me
in your mind
and i will reply.

The honesty and simplicity is what makes your thought pure as an Artist.Once again, Thank You.

How are you doing today good sir?

the mind wonders
the mind wanders;
and always goes home to rest
scottmartinlocke - 10/21/2009 on writing: not simple really
we have to find simplicity
in the complexity of life
to save our own rationality

the dust we stir
only clouds the truth we seek
its sparkle separates it

so by mid day
we just have to laugh
because we realize we don't know it all

The samuri thinks of all things out of necessity,the past,present and future;
they are all one.

Infinity, eternity are consumed by time
you will get lost without a guide
so says the Great Spirit.

Where will you go first when you enter
thru the gates
of the other side of nature.

Still so much to learn
think of our capacities and abilities
they pass without exception
along with inspiration.

At the enterance of etrnity
is this great something filled
with nothing at all but spiritand soul.

You become just a thought
in this great consciousness
the collective whole of everything.

The Samuri faces the event horizon
straight away and seeks for
the harmony promised him.

The Samuri walks a fine line
on the edge
with perfect balance.

we have to let the past go and move on
though we cannot erase our memories
our creativity creates all things anew
scottmartinlocke - 10/05/2009
life is good
yes;inspite of the environment
it's still all inside your head

the wealth of knowledge
sends us past the local environment
into the space of our own mind

footprints in the sand
leave no traces
when washed by the rolling surf

But i know
i've been there by the shore
because in my mind i remember

the question is>
do you think the earth
will remember me.>?
