I am a singer/ songwriter living here in Orlando, Florida. I play guitar as well and I absolutely love all types of music. I am a sucker for a well written song, no matter the genre or artist. But I find that I have very little time for songs that are either cookie cutter tunes or abstract, stupid and meaningless. I like songs that make you think a little bit. I also like songs that create emotion whether it be anger, fear, excitement or tears. I love to write and find myself blogging quite often. You can, if you like, find me at www.myspace.com/stev esalmon and take a look at my previous blogs there. I used to write in a diary pretty much every day. But about a year and a half ago I was introduced to Myspace through a friend of mine and began blogging instead. With my ability to write as well as interact with the many musicians that post there I have found it to be a fantastic place to use as a creative outlet. I am happily married to my wife Dina. We have 3 children between us; her son Brandon, who is working his way through college with aspirations of working his way up through the police force, my son Christopher who just graduated from high school and is a writer like his old man, and my youngest son Nicholas who is 8 years old and lives with his mother in Arkansas. Dina and I have alot in common. We both have an affinity for all things ocean. We are both huge fans of the islands and try to get down there for a visit as often as we can. The last trip that we took found us in the Turks. We simply fell in love with them and can't wait to go back. Having traveled through the Keys and into the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, it's really hard to say what we like more; the Hemmingway influenced, laid back, party lifestyle that the Keys portrayed or the lazy, sun-soaked atmosphere of the islands. The differences haven't seemed to dissuade our love for them all equally.

Interests
Activities: Writing songs, short stories and blogs. Playing guitar. Avid gemstone collector and rock hound. Soaking up the sun somewhere. Snorkeling, diving, boating, fishing... pretty much anything involved with getting in or around the ocean.
Favorite Music: Progressive rock would have to be my favorite form of music because of the musicianship involved. 80's rock, country, reggae, bluegrass, R&B, soul, gospel.... so many to list, really. I'm not too keen on most pop or rap stuff because, quite frankly, it's not very original when most of the times they are using other people's music to "create" their own. I love creativity and musicianship and there's very little of that to be found in those 2 particular genres. (Just my opinion)
Favorite TV Shows: American Idol~ Pretty much anything on the discovery and history channels~ Good Eats~ Diners, Drive-ins and Dives~ Grey's Anatomy (Until they dump Izzy off)~ VH1 Classics in Concert~ Heroes~ JTV

on writing: pain
Something heard once... in a movie (?),
"... All God's chillun got pain."
Had major cancer surgery 8 years ago... it still hurts where they took out a rib. I live with it. My wife suffers with neuropathy in her feet and legs. It's a progressive condition with no cure. Chronic pain has made her temper short and her workdays long. Once, she'd always seem'd to have a smile on her face... now... not so much.
We endure. And so do many of thousands of others.
But your point is well made.

And that shows as fortitude in your character, my friend. People deal with it in many different ways but to persevere and to push forward without bitterness or spite shows a toughness that many don't share.
I appreciate the comment!

Blue Skies~ looking out my back window
Blue Skies
-----------------------------
Although the sun radiates brightly on the Florida landscape, there has been no reason to turn on the air conditioner today. Sitting here I can feel the cool wind rush through the blinds and across the living room. I watch as the curtain tassels dance gingerly on either side of the window tapping against the drywall in time with each gust. My cat, Salem, has taken up his place of daily slumber on the ottoman at my feet. He has curled into a fetal position with his head tucked into the eclipse of his tummy and his puffy black tail cloaked over his face. Projecting from the spherical, black ball of fur are only his pointed ears that twitch and twist when the breeze blows into them. The cold front that moved overhead and further south last evening has left us with a beautifully bright and crisp spring day; the kind of day usually reserved for tourism postcards or chamber of commerce photographs. It is literally picture perfect.
The elevation of my house allows me to look out my rear windows, through the grapefruit tree and directly over the fence to an unobstructed view of the lake. Nestled comfortably in my couch and surrounded by all the creature comforts of home, the artistry that embellish my living room wall is an ever changing palette that repaints itself minute by minute, every day, and all day long. Looking at the art on the wall this morning when I awoke, I could see the ripples where the brim and talapia were surfacing to pick their breakfast from the surface of the water. A few hours ago I watched a red tailed hawk circle above the lake peering through it's reflective mirror and trying to decide just which fish he would be dining with at lunchtime. And right now there are dots of white acrylic moving on the opposing shore line, which I know to be a flock of white ibis; with their long orange bills poking into the soft, wet shoreline looking for food under the soils surface.
The air is full of the springtime chorus of birds; most of which make their homes in the majestic oak forest on the other side of the lake. They each in turn come to visit me daily while they forage for a meal or croon for their mate. Their songs can be heard as an orchestra bellowing from the woods and carried on the wind across the water. Each voice is different and yet equally as beautiful as the other. And on a day like today they have a tendency to lull me fast asleep as my body lies relaxed and unmotivated against the overstuffed cushions and the soft cotton bl...More >>
