Random Thought #224 of the Day

Have you ever read a book and thought, "what does that mean?" Not in the sense that a word is difficult, but that the circumstance is outdated.
This is my absolute focus as a writer. When I write something, I do everything I can to make it timeless. Though I know this remains to be seen being as how I haven't posted any new writing yet, but please take my word on this.
Victor Hugo once said, "If a writer wrote only for his time, I would have to break my pen and throw it away." I agree with him. Sometimes I catch myself doing that, and have to remember that if it ever were to get published, it wouldn't be a classic. Classics are timeless, because they center around a virtue. Too many times today, I read a book and it is just an introduction, character development, climax, exposition. Boom, boom, boom.

I am experiencing the worst possible pain a creative mind can experience.
For years now, I have been transferring all my notebooks to my laptop, confident in technology. I was foolish in the fact that I did not back-up. Not once in three years!
I'm sure everyone can guess what has happened. My computer took a surge and recovered wonderfully, although it ran somewhat slower. One thing it could not recover from was a virus. Now I've lost everything. I have been working on a novel....lost. I have several essays....lost. Poems....lost. Random inspiration mapped into calculated thoughts....lost.
Now my brain and I are at an impasse. There's a need within me to move on, create; my mind is still stuck in devastation, unwilling to cooperate.
What is the cure for writer's block? In all honesty, I've never suffered from it before and now, when I most need to release these entrapped thoughts, I am frozen. In the past, I simply began writing an inco...More >>
