About Me

My name is Derek Penagos. Well I actually started my "musical career" a couple years ago when I was in high school and was a real loser lol. I guess I had a crush on this girl and I was denied, of course. So after that, the only way I dealt with it was to write what I felt in lyrical form. I made a website for the lyrics I wrote and I didn't really expect anyone to see it, but I guess they did. After that, when I asked my girlfriend now out I kinda put all that off for a while because I didn't really have any inspiration to write since I wrote some depressing and mean stuff lol.

One christmas I got a Casio keyboard and I started messing around with the piano and string sounds on it. I never took classes for piano playing, so to this day I've literally taught myself everything so far. I soon began to realize that since I was writing all of my samples in a notebook, it would be smarter to get a program that would link my keyboard to my computer (duh!), so that's what I did. With that program it was still baby steps and the quality was not at all where I wanted to be with my music.

Eventually I heard of a program called Fruity Loops (weird name I know, but this thing pwns!). It is pretty idiot-proof because it lets you record something and move it around whereever you want in the context of the song, so if the timing is off you can fix it. Anyways, that's what I've been using ever since. The cool thing is that you can add a lot of programs to it which is amazing because it comes with a limited amount of sounds and presets which got old to me. The first batch of "songs" I made were only using one sound from the Sytrus tool on it, and they were cool soundscapes, but nothing that I was happy with.

The add-ons I have for my Fruity Loops program are: Magnus Choir, Realistic Virtual Piano, Syntheway Strings, Cameleon 5000, CamelSpace, and CamelPhat.

I just ask anyone who listens to my music and/or downloads it and likes it to leave a comment on my page. Thanks.

Thank you for the comment, I appreciate you taking the time to listen t some of my music. Yea I've been using Fruity Loops ever since a co-worker told me about it a few years ago. Yea, I love ambient and down-tempo music too, it's a nice break from the normal stuff you hear everyday. But yea I've got plenty of material, some of my early stuff using Fruity Loops were very basic ambient tracks, then I started using drum patterns and other instruments like piano and string to actually make full songs that made it a little more interesting. I've made a few CDs for my own collection, I haven't really sent them anywhere t anyone in a serious effort to get signed or anything because I don't think my stuff is that good lol. But thanks again for your input :)

No problem. I was just excited to see someone on here from FL. I want to start a grassroots movement for everyone to switch to IMPnow.com from bullshit Fox News a.k.a. Myspace.com. I'm from Sarasota, FL but, I moved out to Chicago, IL for college.

Yea I have had my stuff on Myspace for a long time and haven't gotten any responses from anyone and in the few days I've been on IMPnow.com I've gotten some decent feedback. It's cool cuz my sister works for the company that made this site, so she just asked me to join and put my music up to help her out lol. Well I hope your movement goes well bro and have fun in Chicago, later.

You are really talented..love the instrumentals. Good thing you were rejected otherwise to think we would not have this great music! Welcome, Delia
PS Where is Greenacres?

Hey thanx for the comment, I'm glad you like my music. And yea I guess if I wasn't hurt back then I wouldn't be inspired to make music lol. And btw Greenacres is near West Palm Beach, Florida.
